OpenCamp Mobile a Hit
We pulled it off, albeit in last-minute fashion, but nonetheless the OpenCamp Mobile app for iPhone was downloaded 296 times by the end of the event.
With about 600 attendees, we call that a great success! Many thanks go out to the OpenCamp team of staff and volunteers for helping us build it. Several folks helped out with the backend development, and many more gave us valuable input on interface design during testing.
At the event, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, but we are already planning a significant number of refinements and additions. The Schedule will reflect current time by starting the list at upcoming events, and visually indicating which events have concluded. We’re adding more Social feeds such as Flickr, and will allow embedded links to launch a separate mobile browser. We’ll also be adding options for sponsors to advertise within the application. An overall shakedown to fix spacing and color anomalies will also go a long way towards polishing the overall look and feel. We’re not going to stop there, either. Tell us what YOU think, and what features need to be added or improved!
Having a mobile application for your next conference or event is a great way to connect visitors, sponsors, and volunteers. What we learned in designing and developing OpenCamp Mobile has shown not only what we can do, but what can be done next!
Thanks again to all the OCDFW attendees, the sponsors, the hotel, the volunteers, and the committee that made OpenCa.mp 2010 a great success of Hype Anvil.
OpenCa.mp Mobile has landed. (3 days early)
We wanted to build an app that was easy to use, the conference was 2 days, there could not be a learning curve. I’m extremely excited about our team and our ability to deliver an outstanding product. If you have an iPhone be sure to download the app and give it a try.
What is OpenCa.mp Mobile?
OpenCamp is an open source CMS and New Media conference held in Dallas August 27-29, 2010. The event has a common track in the mornings and multiple tracks in the afternoon WordPress, Drupal, Joomla!, .NET and Multi-Media. Because the event has multiple tracks, we decided that simple sorting by track would be extremely useful. There is a huge social media buzz surrounding this event, the app includes Twitter and blog feeds from the event. OpenCamp has over 60 speakers so a speaker list was included as well. Look for an Android version as well as many future updates to the iPhone app.

The entire Hype Anvil crew will be at the event, please introduce yourself, we would love to talk to you. Here’s a video I made conveying my top ten reasons for registering for OpenCamp.
